The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Document Our History Now did organise

Rainbow Movie Night at Institute français, Phnom Penh, Cambodia on 10 February 2025

We welcomed 75 enthusiastic visitors who really appreciated the offered program. Many of them they saw Lotus Sports Club for the first time and they were delighted to see such an enchanting documentary from their own country. Pisey Ly (coordinator RoCK) and Vanna Hem (Director) did tell about the important impact Lotus  Sports Club had in Cambodia, on an individual, community and general public level.

7th LGBTIQ+ Movie Night @ the gardens of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Bangkok on 13 February 2025

We were warmly welcomed by ambassador Remco van Wijngaarden in the gardens of the embassy of the Netherlands in Bangkok. He revealed a new ‘artist cow’ celebrating the new Equal marriage law in Thailand.

With 270 people present, we had a very pleasant evening under the stars, with highly appreciated movies on the screen, and great Dutch and Thai snacks at the stalls. It was great to see familiar faces again and greet first-timers to this successful annual event.

Document Our History Now’s gratitude goes to the staff of the embassy and Paul Overdijk, the sponsors and the audience. Together we did pull off a warm event with the focus on Queer storytelling in Asia.

DAD tells the heartfelt story of Pop Bandit, a middle-aged man who creates a reality between his promise to his father (on his deathbed) to start a family and his own homosexuality. Defying societal norms, Pop and his wife Mae Payong embark on a transformative journey, facing challenges and unexpected joys. When Pop’s mother expresses a desire for grandchildren, they decide to have children and twin May and Mine are born. Despite societal judgment, the family’s unwavering support for Pop becomes a source of strength. The film is a poignant tale of acceptance, resilience, and the unconventional path of a rainbow family, bound by love.

Through this, he finally comes to terms with and begins to forge the relationships he failed to carve during his youth with friends and family. A touching, unusual and gorgeously filmed modern fable.
