Chrysalis: Translife in Asia

Myanmar, 2015

This project is a bold, intersectional and interactive photographic essay celebrating the rich spectrum of queer, trans, gay and lesbian identities across eight Asian countries “same same” yet vastly different, interconnected regions. The project illuminates personal stories of resilience, resistance and radiant self-expression. The photo series in this DOHN Magazine is from Myanmar, made in the context of the &PROUD LGBTIQ+ photography competition in 2015.

The exhibition of this project is not only a visual experience but a deeply personal one. It invites viewers to engage with visual narratives. By fostering a transactional dialogue between communities in Asia, the project seeks to create a bridge of solidarity, cultural exchange, and mutual understanding.

This photo serie about about Ricky is made in 2015 and won the first prize in the &PROUD Photography competition.

Exposure of the photo series

This project was first shown in Art Galleries in Chinatown, Bangkok in 2014 as part of a documentary series featuring photographers with LGBTIQ+ themes. In 2019 it was part of the Exposure Photography Festival in Alberta, Canada, and in 2020 it was presented to students of gender and feminism studies at the Snelgrove Gallery in Saskatoon, Canada.
