Biography

Su Su Hlaing is a film director and a screenwriter. Having joined a Yangon Film School (YFS) screenwriting class in 2012, her first screenplay To School was turned into a film in which she worked as an assistance director, in 2013. She is currently (2016) developing Splash, a feature-length screenplay about a young street kid in Yangon, as well as a documentary film project about illegal abortion in Myanmar entitled The Missing Needles. This project has been awarded a YFS Fellowship grants and Asia Docmonde grants in Cambodia. Her another featured length documentary she made is about a small village where the villagers are suffering from civil war, between Myanmar Government Army and Kachin Independent Army in Kachin State, Myanmar entitled Nam Sam Yang and has been awarded a grant from the DMZ Docs Fund in Korea. She has recently (2015) finished her documentary called “Love & Other Matters” about LGBTs in Myanmar.
